Guidance For STEM Transfer Students

STEM|ASSIST (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math| Active Student Support to Integrate STEM Transfers) Peer Mentor Program

The STEM | ASSIST peer mentor program strives to connect new transfer students in one of our targeted majors (Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Mathematics, and Physics) with a current ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ STEM peer mentor.  The goal of the STEM | ASSIST program is to expedite the integration of our new transfer students, both socially and academically, by providing them with introductions to the faculty and resources available to them on campus, in the departments, and around town.

The peer mentors will complement the faculty/student advising relationship and will assist new transfer students with tips on how to navigate through the system (and ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ generally), balance family, job, social, and academic demands, and connect with the major department and ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½.

Benefits for the new transfer student include:

  • Connecting with the department and other students
  • Learning the resources available through the department and the university
  • Tips on time management relative to courses in their major
