SALISBURY, MD---Twelve ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ community members have been named Fulbright Student semifinalists for the 2024-25 program.
The Fulbright is America’s flagship international exchange program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. This year’s semifinalists represent more than 50% of the University’s applicants.

SALISBURY, MD---Danitza Verano Roman grew up in Peru, immigrating to the U.S. when she was 14. She knew almost no English when she arrived, but has picked it up fluently in the past eight years.
Her love of learning, and opportunities and encouragement provided by ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, have led a new adventure for the Silver Spring resident: taking on another language as a recent recipient of the Boren Fellowship through the National Security Education Program (NSEP).

Twelve from ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Named 2023-24 Fulbright Student Semifinalists

SALISBURY, MD---In 2022, a record nine from ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ were selected as Fulbright Students, enabling them to live, study, conduct research and teach in Europe, Africa and South America.
This year, 12 ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Fulbright Student semifinalists hope to follow in their footsteps. They represent more than 50% of the University’s applicants for the 2023-24 program.

Ciattei First ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Student to Reach Rhodes Scholar Finals

SALISBURY, MD---ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ senior Christian Ciattei recently was named a finalist for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.
“It can be intimidating applying and interviewing for some of the most admired and competitive scholarships,” said Ciattei. “It was exciting competing at such a high level and being able to meet the other finalists and represent ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ when surrounded by so many students with diverse higher education experiences, including Ivy Leagues”

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ students prepare to make their Fulbright Student application submissions
SALISBURY, MD---ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ has 15 semifinalists for prestigious U.S. Fulbright Student awards for the 2022-23 academic year – tied for its largest number to date.
“This year’s semifinalist cohort represents 15 out of 19 ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ applicants, or a 79% success rate,” said Dr. Kristen Walton, director of ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½’s Nationally Competitive Fellowships Office. “We are very excited for this group of amazing young men and women.”

SALISBURY, MD---Four ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ students have earned the prestigious U.S. Fulbright Student Award for the 2020-21 academic year.
Senior Jessica Pierce won a research award to study neuroscience in Norway. Senior Julia Rohrer and alumni Abiodun Adeoye ’20 and Kathryn Stout ’15 earned English Teaching Assistantships (ETAs) in Panama, Kyrgyzstan and Serbia, respectively.

Eight ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Students, Alumni Named Fulbright Semifinalists for 2018-19

SALISBURY, MD---ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ has four current students and four recent graduates who are semifinalists for prestigious U.S. Fulbright Student awards for the 2018-19 academic year.
Martina Maya-CallenSeniors Martina Maya-Callen and Danielle Walker are being considered for English Teaching Assistantships to Argentina and Moldova, respectively. Seniors Nicholas Butler and Jeremie Davis are up for academic research/study grants in the United Kingdom – Butler for atmospheric science and meteorology at the University of Reading and Davis for theatre at the University of Warwick.
Alumni being reviewed for the academic awards include: Thomas Best to study management at Instituto de Empresa in Spain; Callista Brown to study science communication at Technische Universiteit Delft in the Netherlands; Caroline Deschak to study public health at the Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica in Mexico, and Brendan Gallagher to study psychology at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland.
ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Among Nation's Top Producers of Fulbright Students

SALISBURY, MD---ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ has been named among the nation’s top producers of Fulbright Students for 2017-18 by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
The Fulbright is the country’s flagship international educational exchange program. Top-producing campuses were highlighted in The Chronicle of Higher Education.
ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ had four students, all May 2017 graduates, who received Fulbright awards for this academic year. They were: Hannah Ennerfelt, Katherine Potvin and Matthew Jones of ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, and Brittany Bursa of Flemington, NJ.

SALISBURY, MD---A ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ student has earned one of the world’s most prestigious international scholarships, the Gates Cambridge award, to explore the development of drugs, especially for antibiotic-resistant diseases. In the process, she is fulfilling a lifelong dream to study near her birthplace. Senior Dominique Kunciw of Berlin, MD, will pursue a Ph.D. in chemistry at the renowned University of Cambridge.

More than three centuries ago, Charles Overholt's ancestors immigrated to America from Germany in search of a better life. Now, the Pocomoke City native is going back to the country they left as the first ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ student to earn the prestigious Fulbright Student Fellowship, awarded by the U.S. Department of State’s Fulbright Exchange Program.
