Definition:
Dual enrollment is taking courses at the collegiate level while still in high school and receiving college and high school credit simultaneously. All dual enrollment students are enrolled as non-degree seeking students at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. Some dual enrollment students take regular classes at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ (either online or on campus) and some take special courses taught at your high school.

Eligibility:
Students must be academically eligible for dual enrollment (see specific school information below), must obtain permission from their high school and complete the registration packet with your high school counselor. Once the class is completed, you will need to submit your final grade to your high school guidance counselor.

Cost:
For most public school students, there is no cost to families to participate in dual enrollment! This is a outstanding opportunity to considerably save on the cost of college. To confirm the cost for your high school, look for details below under each jurisdiction.

What are the advantages?
Earning college credit in high school? What’s not to love! Because dual enrollment classes are offered for free or at a substantial discount to regular tuition, you’ll save money. Most college credits earned at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ transfer cleanly to any two or four-year college or university, saving you considerable time to graduation, no matter where you decide to go to college. As a bonus, taking dual enrollment courses from a University when you are in high school looks great as you apply to college!

What are the disadvantages?
As with any course, performance matters, especially if you are using the dual enrollment course for graduation requirements. Courses at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ are rigorous and fast-paced, so they may be more challenging than a similar course taught at your high school.

What classes should I take?
The choice of courses is completely up to you (and your guidance counselor)! But, since you will be headed to college soon, we have suggestions! All universities have common course requirements that every student must take. At a minimum, most require students to complete courses in English composition, mathematics, lab science and two semesters of a foreign language. The dual enrollment courses approved by your school district are optimized to help students accomplish these requirements early. Know what you want to study in college? Eligibility:

• Full-time student with junior or senior standing at a Somerset County public high school
• Has an overall unweighted grade point average of at least 2.75
• Must meet the prerequisite requirements of the desired college course, if any

Cost:

The cost of tuition, fees, and required course materials for up to 2 courses per semester are completely paid for by SCPS. If a student intends to enroll in more than two courses in a semester, they must seek their principal's permission before doing so.

Cost:

WCPS students may earn dual credit in two primary ways.

First, WCPS and ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ are partnering to provide University-approved curriculum, taught at Worcester County high schools by WCPS faculty. These University-approved courses, listed below, may not be offered every year, so check with your guidance counselor for availability.

Second, WCPS students are able to choose from an exciting list of courses offered by ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ on their main campus in ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. Please see the list below.

• Must be a qualifying high school student (as determined by the WCPS based upon credits earned and academic performance)
• Has an overall weighted grade point average of at least 2.75
• Meets all full-time student enrollment criteria as set forth in the WCPS high school course catalog
• Provides the academic advisor's written confirmation of the student's eligibility for the program

Cost:

There is no cost to students and their families to participate in dual enrollment. WCPS will pay for the student's tuition, books, and any other required course materials.

All MATH courses at the 140 level and above count as the 4th math course in the senior year.

If you are a junior or senior in high school and are interested in dually enrolling at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, but are not a student in one of the schools/school systems listed above, you should talk to your guidance counselor about the possibility. Please note that the cost of enrolling at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, if not listed as a special case above, will be at the regular per credit rate of tuition and fees and will be based on residency requirements.

SCS students may earn dual credit in two primary ways. First, SCS and ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ are partnering to provide University-approved curriculum, taught at SCS by SCS faculty. These University-approved courses, listed below, may not be offered every year so check with your guidance counselor for availability. Second, SCS students are able to choose from a diverse list of courses offered by ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ for dual credit. The eligibility and costs are the same no matter which courses you choose.

• Meets all full-time student enrollment criteria as set forth in the SCS high school course catalog

How will I know if I have been enrolled?
An enrollment confirmation email will be sent from ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ to the email address listed on your registration request.

I want to take a particular course, but there doesn’t seem to be any open sections – or the open sections don’t fit my high school schedule?
Dual enrollment course requests are filled after existing ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ students have a chance to register for classes. If no suitable courses are available right now, keep checking back as new seats and sections could open up. Also, let your guidance counselor know so that any changes in course availability can be communicated quickly.

What is FERPA and why do you ask about consent to disclose education records?
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. All students who attend ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ (including dual enrollment students) retain that right of privacy to their records. Both the parents/guardians of a student and the officials at your high school need the student’s permission to receive education records from ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. In fact, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ cannot share a student’s records without expressed permission.

For a class completed at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, how will my high school know my grades?
Once your University class is complete, you will be able to login to GullNet and print a copy of your grades. You will send this to your guidance counselor and they will record them in your high school’s system.

How many courses may I take at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ through dual enrollment?
Each jurisdiction allows different course/credit limits of dual enrollment. Check with your school's guidance counselor.

Can I participate in dual enrollment at more than one college/university?
Yes, but your full schedule – including dual enrollment course – must be approved by your high school guidance counselor

Are dual enrollment courses weighted on my high school transcript the same as AP courses?
Most dual enrollment courses carry a quality points bonus. However, you should talk to your guidance counselor for more information because each school/school system may be different.

Can I take a dual enrollment course in the summer session at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½?
No, eligible dual enrollment courses are only available during the regular fall and spring semesters at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. You can, however, take summer courses at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ as a regular Non-degree Seeking student and transfer those courses to your home University, but you will pay the regular tuition rate. To register for a summer course contact the Registrar's Office - registrar@salisbury.edu.

What are the advantages of taking dual enrollment courses at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ versus another institution?
We believe that the educational quality that you will receive at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ is outstanding. You will also gain valuable experience in a University classroom, much like you will encounter once you enroll in a University full-time as a degree-seeking student. Also, the University credits that you earn through Dual Enrollment at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ are very likely to be accepted, no matter where you go to college.

Does ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ accept dual enrollment credit from other high schools?
Yes, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ does accept other institution's dual enrollment credits that you earned in high school. These credits are subject to the same transfer credit decisions as any other coursework completed at other institutions. The sending institution's transcript should, at a minimum, list the course with a grade, the earned credit, and the quality points. Contact registrar@salisbury.edu for more information.
