The Delta Alpha Pi Access Champion award recognizes an exceptional member of Delta Alpha Pi who embodies unwavering dedication to disability awareness advocacy, empowerment, and education within the campus community. This award celebrates their tireless efforts in promoting inclusivity, breaking down barriers, and fostering an environment where all individuals thrive. Through their passionate advocacy, they inspire meaningful change, championing the rights and voices of students with disabilities. Their commitment to raising awareness, providing support, and creating opportunities for meaningful engagement exemplifies the spirit of Delta Alpha Pi and enhances the overall campus experience for students of all abilities.

Our last award of the evening is another first, we have the esteemed pleasure of presenting the inaugural Judy Huemann Advocate Achievement Award a prestigious honor named after Judy Heumann, an internationally renowned leader in the disability community & lifelong civil rights advocate. This award recognizes individuals who embody her spirit of resilience, advocacy, and commitment to social justice. Award recipients will have demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, and impact in the field of disability services, particularly in advocating for the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities in the following ways:
- significant contributions to advancing the rights and opportunities of people with disabilities on local, national, or international levels.
- demonstrated unwavering dedication and persistence in addressing barriers to inclusion, accessibility, and equality for individuals with disabilities.
- demonstrated exemplary leadership by mobilizing communities, raising awareness, and effecting positive change in policies, practices, and attitudes toward disability rights.
- empowered others to become advocates for disability rights and social justice through their actions, words, and advocacy efforts; fostering collaboration, dialogue, and partnership among diverse stakeholders to create more inclusive and accessible societies for people with disabilities.
The Judy Heumann Award serves to honor the legacy of Judy Heumann and celebrate and recognize the importance of grassroots advocacy, intersectional approaches, and inclusive practices in promoting equity and dignity for all members of society, regardless of ability.
