Get Your Career On Track

Exercise Science Major

Watch your rewarding career take shape at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½! In our Exercise Science Program, you’ll learn about human anatomy and physiology, fitness and kinesiology so you can help others achieve and maintain good health. The academic foundation of exercise science is in physiology, bioenergetics, and movement anatomy and mechanics, with applications to exercise responses and adaptations, strength and conditioning, sport performance, and disease and injury.

Why Choose an Exercise Science Major at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½?

The Exercise Science Program at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. It is designed to prepare you for professional certification through the American College of Sports Medicine or the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Our program is recognized by the NSCA as having met the criteria for acceptance into their Education Recognition Program for Strength and Conditioning.

Our program offers internship experience and includes many hands-on opportunities in health and fitness initiatives and scientific research.

For those interested in this field, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ also offers an exercise science minor, which can complement many other ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ majors.

Exercise Science Tracks/Concentrations

At ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, students may choose from three options to complete the exercise science major.

Exercise Science, B.S./Health and Human Performance, M.S. Accelerated Master’s

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ offers students the opportunity to earn a combined B.S. in exercise science and an M.S in health and human performance in just five years. Admitted ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ undergraduate exercise science students can adopt the Five-Year Combined B.S. Exercise Science/M.S. Health and Human Performance Program as their major once conditional prerequisites are met. Once admitted to the combined B.S./M.S. program, students work concurrently to complete the degrees following the requirements. Dr. Scott Mazzetti is the director of the Laboratory for Human Performance at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, which has helped prepare undergraduate students for careers in the exercise sciences. Mazzetti’s research is in skeletal muscle metabolism and physiology, with an emphasis on enhancing energy expenditure responses for weight management. ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ students participate in this research alongside him, and he has published findings with several of his students. His classroom instruction emphasizes real-life applications of physiology and scientific research to develop “thinkers” who can be successful practitioners in the health sciences.
