Professional Licensure Programs

Professional licensure is required to pursue many professions and requirements can vary by state. Below is a list of licensure programs offered and current determination of in what states each program meets licensure requirements.

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ offers the following programs that meet the degree requirements for professional licensure in Maryland. In some cases, there exists reciprocity agreements between Maryland and other states. These agreements allow individuals who hold a professional license in one state to earn a license in another state, subject to meeting state-specific requirements. Most states have policies to extend reciprocity for certain licenses, but few states provide full reciprocity for all fully licensed professionals from other states. Click on the links below to view a licensure disclosure on each program.

Individuals may be able to graduate from one of ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½'s programs then go to another state and be eligible for licensure if they meet all of the other requirements besides the degree. This page represents the best information currently available to determine professional licensure requirements and reciprocity with ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½'s programs.

Perdue School of Business

The Perdue School of Business’ Accounting program prepares students for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. The program is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International.

All states, including Maryland, require a minimum of 150 credit hours of college education to fulfill the education requirements for obtaining a CPA license. Students can typically complete their Accounting degree and the specific course requirements for the CPA in the 120 credits required to earn the degree. Some states, including Maryland, allow students to take the CPA exam once they have completed 120 credit hours and their bachelor’s degree or higher, with a major or concentration in Accounting. However, since 150 credits are required to fulfill the education requirements for obtaining a CPA license, students must complete 30 credits beyond the specific course requirements to be licensed.

It is recommended that students contact their intended state's Board of Accountancy prior to beginning a program at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, and meet with their advisor(s) at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, to determine specific state or territory requirements. There may be additional requirements in other states that cannot be met in Maryland, or that could be met while you work on your degree at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½.

The table below provides information about program compliance in all U.S. states and some territories and is useful for those who may not choose to practice in Maryland. For more information regarding specific state requirements, visit: .

Seidel School of Education

The Seidel School of Education offers many programs that prepare candidates for teacher or administrator licensure or certification. Licensure and certification programs at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ are state approved by the Maryland Department of Education (MSDE) and nationally accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).

Students should be familiar with requirements in other states if they are planning on being a teacher or administrator outside of Maryland upon graduation. It is recommended students contact their intended states’ Department of Education and/or Licensure Boards prior to beginning a program at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, and meet with their advisor(s) at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, to determine specific state or territory requirements. There may be additional requirements of other states that cannot be met in Maryland, or that could be met while you work on your degree at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½.

Prospective international students should confirm with appropriate certification agencies to determine if a degree in teaching or administration from ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ satisfies licensure or certification requirements in the country they intend to seek employment.

The table below give information about program compliance with licensure requirements in all U.S. states and some territories and are useful for those who may not choose to teach in Maryland. Note that licensure and certification requirements can change at any time.
